History of Karstens Ridge

Named in 1913 by Archdeacon Stuck (1921, p. 73) for Harry P. Karstens, "in honor of the man, who with Walter's (Harper) help, cut that staircase three miles long amid the perilous complexities of its (Mount McKinley's)[now Denali] chaotic ice-blocks." Karstens, with Archdeacon Stuck, Walter Harper, and Robert Tatum, made the "first official ascent" of Mount McKinley [now Denali] (South Peak) on June 7, 1913.
