History of Peters Glacier

Named by A. H. Brooks in 1902 for William John Peters, 1864-1942, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). topographer and explorer, who was in charge of USGS explorations in Alaska from 1898 to 1901. It was also called "Hanna Glacier" for Marcus Alonzo Hanna, U.S. senator of Ohio, "friend and political warwick of President McKinley, for whom Mount McKinley was named."
