History of Biorka

In 1790 Martin Sauer recorded the Aleut name "Sidankin"; in 1826 Lieutenant Sarichev (map 14 dated 1792), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), published "S(elo) Sedanka" or "Sedanka Village"; Father Veniaminov (1840, v. 1, p. 185) wrote the Aleut name "Uguyug". In 1888 U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) recorded "Burka", which Baker (1906 p. 133) published "Bioka", "from the Norwegian Bjerk O or Swedish Bjork O, meaning Birch Island."
