Aleut name reported by John Henry Fox in 1791 (See Wagner, 1937, p. 356), which, according to R. H. Geoghegan, is derived from agamaq and means hoarfrost. This feature was called Food Bay by U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) in 1888.
