Getting There

Benjamin Island is closest to Juneau. From Juneau go up Glacier Highway cross over Eagle River and the highway starts to hug the shore. Right before it breaks from the shore there's a parking lot on the water side. Canoes and kayaks can put in there. Depending on the boat and tide you might* be able to launch some boats there. Otherwise your beset best is to put in at Amalga Harbor.

off E shore of Favorite Channel, 25 mi. NW of Juneau, Coast Mts. 1.5 miles long.

Benjamin Island sits in Favorite Channel. Three gravel beaches are on the south end of the island. A good access beach sits on the northeast side of the island. The island has a spruce/hemlock forest.

Some of the rocky edges of Benjamin Island are used as a haulout for Stellar sea lions. Eagles, black oystercatchers, and other birds also frequent the island.

History

Named in 1880 by CAPT. L. A. Beardslee, U.S. Navy (USN), who visited the area that year.
