named "Mys "Provideniya," i.e. "Cape Providence," by Ensign Vasiliev, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), in 1831; his skin-boat-bidarka was wrecked here and Vasiliev narrowly escaped drowning. point of land "Naluktchvak," according to Lutke (1836, p. 277).
