extends NW from Cape Providence, on E coast of Alaska Peninsula, 35 mi. NE of Sutwik I., Aleutian Range
Surveyed in 1831 by Ensign Vasiliev and named for Admiral Baron Ferdinand Petrovich von Wrangell, 1794-1870, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), Director Russian-American colonies. The name was published in 1835 as "B(aie) Wrangel" by Admiral A. J. von Krusenstern, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN).
