Haida Indian name recorded by Etolin in 1833 as "Gavan Kaigan," or "Kaigan Harbor;" published on Russian Hydrographic Dept. Chart 1396 in 1848. US@C&GS published the name "Kai-gah-nee Harbors" for these bays in the 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 66), and referred to them as in the 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 66), and referred to them as North Harbor, Middle Harbor (South Harbor since 1932), and South Harbor (Datzkoo Harbor since 1932).
