Aleut village reported in 1847 on Russian Hydrog, Dept. Chart 1379 as "S(elo) Belkovskoe" from "belka," meaning "squirrel." Its population was 102 in 1833; 268 in 1880; 185 in 1890; 147 in 1900; 129 in 1920; 123 in 1930; 140 in discontinued in 1951.
