History of Kunuk Creek

Eskimo name meaning "narrow place" or "neck", referring to the narrow slough at the end of Aiautak Lagoon; reported in 1950 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) as "Koon- gook." Recorded in 1956 as "Kunakh" at Point Hope by Orth.
