Prospectors' name reported in 1900 by Brooks (1901, pl. 13 and p. 135), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). the name as "Kivyearzruk" and noted (p. 25) that the gold "discovery was made in June, 1899, by Kivyearuk, a Prince of Wales native, then employed as reindeer herder by W. T. Lopp, a missionary in charge of a Government reindeer station."
