Eskimo name reported in 1900 as "Anakovik" by Brooks (1901, pl. 13 and p. 134), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Schrader and Brooks in 1900 (map 3) speled the name "Onokovuk", and in the same year U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) showed "Onokuruk" on Chart 9380.
