Allison Creek empties into Port Valdez and its mouth can be accessed at low tide by parking on Allison Point before reaching the Alyeska Valdez Marine Terminal. Taking the trail down to the beach and walking west to the mouth of the creek.
The headwaters can be accessed by parking at the Solomon Gulch Trailhead and walking up to the pipeline. Once on the pipeline go west (right) and up the little hill, down the backside through the gate, and up the next little hill. There will be a road to the left, take that, then take the first left that follows soon after.
That road will wind against the side of the hill until you reach a gate through a tunnel. It's trespassing to go through the tunnel. From there you will need to bushwhack for about a mile over the hill down the backside to rejoin the road.
Once on the road you can follow that to the head waters and on to the lake. It's a steep road and the whole hike out will take about two hours before reaching the lake.
heads in lake, flows N to Port Valdez, 3.7 mi. SW of Valdez, Chugach Mts. 2 miles long.
Allison Creek has a short run with lots of vertical drop. Its headwaters make for a short and fun float but takes effort to hike up there.
HistoryLocal name reported in 1917 by B. L. Johnson, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
Named after Lieutenant Allison, stationed at Fort Liscum.
Copper Valley Electric Association added a hydro plant to Allison Creek back around 2016. It was placed high on the creek before it made its steep descent down the slope. Its placement has minimal effect on the flow or ecology of the creek.
To our knowledge the first descent of Allison Creek was done in a pack raft in August 2018, by Zachary Sheldon, and his son Fox. They were only able to make it to the hydro plant pool.
