History of Afognak River

Name derived from Afognak Island reported in 1839 or 1840 as Reka Afognak, or Afognak River, by Sub Lieutenant Murashev, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN); published in 1849 on Russian Hydrographic Dept. Chart 1425. The Russian name Litnik was reported in 1900 by Lieutenant Commander J. F. Moser, U.S. Navy (USN). See Litnik, locality.
