this feature was originally called "Prospect Head" in 1916 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) Coast Pilot (p. 161); "Ship Mountain"; was the name given in 1923 by R.H. Sargent,USGS, "because it looks like the prow of a ship."
