Name shown on a 1916 fieldsheet by C. E. Giffin, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Named for Charles Sheldon, 1867-1928, noted author and hunter-naturalist, who studied Dall sheep and other wildlife in the Mount McKinley area in 1906, 1907, and 1908. He was the prime figure in Mount McKinley's establishment as a National Park. See Denali National Park.
