Named in 1905 by Ralph S. Tarr and Lawrence Martin, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), for Edward A. Rasmuson (1882-1949), teacher at the government school at Yakutat and missionary of the Swedish Evangelical Mission Covenant of America.
