Named by Belmore Browne in 1912 for Alfred Hulse Brooks, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The mountain was first climbed by Thayer Scudder, Winslow Briggs, J. S. Humphreys, and David Bernays on July 5, 1952 (Farquhar, 1959, p. 215). See Brooks Range.
