on Kakuhan Range, 3.6 mi. NE of Point Sherman on Lynn Canal and 46 mi. NW of Juneau, Coast Mts.
descriptive name given in 1867 by George Davidson, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), because its "serrated profile is said to show, when seen from Chatham strait, a resemnlance to a couchant lion" (Knopf, 1911, p. 10). The name was published in the 1869 Coast Pilot. The mountain was charted, however, east of Berners Bay and continued to be so shown for nearly 40 years.
