Eskimo name obtained in 1931 by Gerald Fitzgerald, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The full Eskimo name of this mountain, obtained from F. W. Waskey, a local prospector, is "Ketokecheegilinguk," which reportedly means "the mountain we can not go around." The abbreviated name was published by Mertie (1938b, p. 12 and pl. 1), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
