Trending SW-NE and bounded on the S, SE, and E sides by the Kwethluk River, Crooked Creek, a N branch of the Kisaralik River, and the Kipshuk River, and on the N and W sides by the Kuskokwin River lowlands, Kilbuck-Kuskokwim Low.
Named in 1898 by J. E. Spurr, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), for Reverend John H. Kilbuck, a Moravian missionary at Bethel (1885-98 and 1921-22) who helped him with the geography and ethnology of the area.
