History of Goose Island

Translation by U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) in 1888 of the Russian name "o(strov) Gusinyy" meaning "Island of Geese" published in 1847 by t8e Russian Hydrographic Dept. on Chart 1379. The island was called in Russian-French "Sivoutchy (du lion marin) rocher" meaning "Seal Lion Rock" by Lutke (1836, p. 271). It was reported as Big Goose Island by W. H. Dall, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), and publis8ed on Chart 806 of U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1882.
