History of Point Whitshed

Named by Captain George Vancouver, Royal Navy (RN), for Captain Whitshed, Royal Navy (RN), after the point of land was examined by James Johnstone on June 25, 1794 (Wagner, 1937,p.421). It was called "Punta de Treville" by Don Ignacio Artega in 1779 for Louis Rene Madeleine le Vasson de Latouche Treville, French admiral who died in 1804 (Wagner, 1937,p.520).
