Afognak i., N of Kodiak .
Name published by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) from the descriptive name (mys) Silnago ayechyeniya or Cape Strong Current, published by the Russian American Company in 1849. The name was first applied by sublt. Mikhail Murashev, Irn, in 1839 or 1840 to a point farther west because of the strong currents between Afognak and Shuyak Islands (Baker, 1906, p. 205).
