Aleut name reported as "Tchakhikh" by the North Pacific Expedition in 1855. According to R. H. Geoghegan, the Aleut meaning of this name is "borth hands" or "pair of hands" he suggests that it may be deriv ed from the word cchagig" meaning "shelter" or "refuge."
