Shown as "Baie Amah-chack" by Admiral von Krusenstern (1826, map20), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN). The Russian Hydrography Department shows this native name as "Zal[iv] Aniakshak" in 18476 on Chart 1379; "Aniakchak Bay" appears on an 1890 U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) chart.
