History of Kalifornsky

Tanaina Indian village reported in 1916 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS). The name may be derived from the "Kali (fishermen)" clan of Tanaina Indians, with a Russian termination. Another story has the name given to a Dena'ina (Tanaina) Indian who worked at the Fort Ross colony in California between 1812 and the 1820's.
