Flows NE to the Colville River, 7 mi SW of Umiat, Arctic Slope. 25 miles long.
Named by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) geologists during exploration of Naval Petroleum Reserve No. 4 in 1947 because of the excellent fossil collection located there. The Eskimo name, according to T. E. Taylor, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in 1956, for this stream is Ikaksigilak, meaning "hard to cross in summer."
