Named in 1950 by I.L. Tailleut, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), geologist, with the Naval Petroleum Reserve No. 4 explorations; name published by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in 1951. So named because of the abundant fossils of this name along the creek.
