History of Carter Creek

Named by Leffingwell (1919, p. 94) for the prospector F. G. Carter. U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) reported in 1948 that the Eskimo name for this stream is "Ekalukliurak" which generally refers in meaning to "place where fish are caught early."
