This appears to be a partial translation of the Indian name which in complete form would be "female beaver creek." The name was first published on Edwards Track Chart of the Yukon, 1899, as "She Beaver (Ausana)." See Hodzana River. The simple form "Beaver" was published by Mendenhall (1902, pl. 4), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
