History of Titaluk River

Named in 1924 by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS); derived from the Eskimo name of a fish caught by Ensign W. L. Howard in June 1886. "Caught our first fish; native name Tee-tal-uk, scientific name, Lota marculosa." (Stoney, 1900, p. 74).
