Local name obtained in 1898 by J. E. Spurr and W. S. Post, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), from A Mittendorf, a local trader; published by Spurr (1900, p. 235), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The stream was shown as "Swan Creek" or "Estu-y-a-rok" on a 1910 manuscript map by H. C. Fasset, U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF).
