This appears to be the same stream published as Sucker River by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1890. The present name was mentioned by R. G. McConnell, Canadian Geological Survey, in 1888 (FitzGerald, 1944, p. 226). So called because of the "boulder stream rapids that extend three quarters of a mile up stream from its mouth * * *."
