History of Ipnelivik River

Eskimo name meaning "sheep raising place," derived from "imnaik" ("imnak", meaning "cliff"), the name for the Dallsheep, (Ovis dalli dalli); shown on 1911 fieldsheet by C. E. Giffin, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
