History

Indian name reported in 1869 as "Atutsakalakushchargut" by Captain Raymond (1871,p. 23), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In 1885, Lieutenant Allen, USA, spelled it "Atutsakulakushakakat"; U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) published it as "Atutzehhuilcusten." The name has been shortened for obvious reasons.
