28 mi. SE of The Nogahabara Sand Dunes, Koyukuk Low.
So called by river-boat pilots as early as 1900, because the circuitous Koyukuk River "approaches the mountain numerous times and eventually goes around it." The Koyukuk Indian name is "Suskita," according to Lieutenant B. H. Camden, (Cantwell, 1904, p. 244), U.S. Revenue-Cutter Service (USRCS).
