History of Pinnell Mountain

Named by Lieutenant Commander R. Darling, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), for Robert E. Pinnell of the Coast & Geodetic Survey, who was killed on July 17, 1952 while climbing on nearby Porcupine Dome (US-T121). The mountain was considered part of Porcupine Dome by Spurr (1898, p. 50), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
