Named by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) for George Turner, 1850-1932, who was Boundary Commissioner in 1903. He was U.S. Senator from Washington, 1887-1903, and a member of the International Joint Commission, United States and Canada, 1913-14. The name was published on U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) Chart 8000 in 1908.
