History of Mount Copleston

On August 5, 1826, Sir John Franklin (1828, p. 150) wrote, "Lieutenant Back made a sketch of the most western mountain, which I had the pleasure of naming in honor of Dr. Copleston, Provost of Oriel College, now Bishop of Landaff."
