History of Mount Buckland

Named in 1965 by B. P. Exploration Co. for William Buckland (1784-1856), British geologist, who made the earliest description and correlation of the Lower Carboniferous fossils collected from the Lisburne Hills by the 1826 and 1827 expeditions to Alaska led by Captain F.W. Beechey, Royal Navy.
