Eskimo name reported in 1927 by Captain F. W. Beechey, Royal Navy (RN), as "Kig-low-aie." by E. C. Barnard (in Brooks, 1901, pl. 17), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). "Map of Nome Peninsula" by J. M. Davidson and B. D. Blackeslee showed "Sawtooth Range," the name probably used by early prospectors.
