History of Chandler Lake

Named by Lieutenant Stoney (1900, p. 44), U.S. Navy (USN), who discovered this lake March 18, 1886, for William E. Chandler, 1835-1917, Secretary of the Navy during President Arthur's administration. The Eskimo name for this lake is "Narivakpak" meaning "big lake."
