two lakes at 1961 terminus of Steller Glacier, S of Carbon Mtn. and 66 mi. E of Cordova, Chugach Mts.
Descriptive collective name used by prospectors and reported by G. C. Martin in 1905. Originally there were five lakes locally called First, Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth Lakes, as shown on a 1908 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) map by E. C. Hamilton. A 1961 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) map shows only two lakes, Berg Lake and Fifth Lake, as a result of the recent retreat of the Stellar and Bering Glaciers, and the enlargement and joining of the original five lakes.
