Aleut name reported by Captain Lutke (1836, p. 299) as "Anangouliak" and by Father Veniaminov (1840, v. 1, p. 156) as "Ananulyak". This island was called 'O (strov) Anayulyakh " or "Anayulyakh Island" by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 25), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN).
