Located in the Wrangell-Saint Elias Wilderness, flows E from Steller Glacier and joins Bering Glacier at the Bering-Tana Glacier Divide; N of Waxell Ridge; 64 km (40 mi) N of Mount Campbell and 66 km (41 mi) NW of Cape Yakataga.

History of Waxell Glacier

Named for the nearby Waxell Ridge which commemorates Lieutenant Sven Waxell (1701-1762) who was a member of Bering's crew on the 1741 vogage to Alaska.
