In the Alaska Range, Tordrillo Mts., heading on the NW slope of Mount Gerdine and trending NW, then NE, to its terminus, where it forms the head of the Hayes River, 87 mi NW of Anchorage. 27 miles long.
Named in 1898 by Josiah E Spurr and William S Post, 1898, after Dr Charles Willard Hayes (1859-1916), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) geologist.
