HistoryNative name reported by Petroff in 1880 (10th Census, p. 30). This village may be the same as Oohaiack reported by Lisianski (1814, p. 169). The U.S. Post Office Department established the Alitak post office here in 1933 but discontinued it in 1945 (Ricks, 1965, p. 3).
