in Glacier Bay National Monument, 0.8 mi. E of Sugarloaf I. and 53 mi. NW of Hoonah, St. Elias Mts
So named Garnet Point by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1926, because the rocky face of the point is studded with small particles resembling garmets. The name was changed , in 1929 to the Russian word for garnet (venisa) "in order to eliminate dulpication."
