History of Oliktok Point

Eskimo name reported by Lieutenant W. J. S. Pullen, Royal Navy (RN), as "Olikto", meaning "it shakes or trembles." On July 24, 1837, P. W. Dease and Thomas Simpson named it "Point Berens," after one of the directors of the Hudson's Bay Company (Simpson, 1843, p. 129). At variance with Sir John Franklin's text. Some of the earlier charts show this to be Beechey Point. E. de K.
